OUT in Albuquerque
The Albuquerque metro area is fast approaching the one million population mark but only has a handful of gay bars. The reason we can see why so few of gay bars for such a large population is due to that the people of Duke City are open minded and welcoming that that the LGBT community feels they can be themselves in many main stream establishments. New Mexico has a strong following among artist, New Agers, feminists and outdoor enthusiasts who share interests with the LGBT community. There is no known gayborhood in Albuquerque as the LGBT community feels they feel comfortable living throughout the city. As we are seeing a trend in cities such as Hillcrest in San Diego, or Capital Hill in Denver where the Gay and Lesbian community is moving into the suburbs. You will find an overwhelming gay presence in the Nob Hill district that is near the University New Mexico . Nob Hill is where you will find retail and restaurants from the funky to the elegant. If you love to people watch Nob Hill is the area to watch, just an amazing diversity of people. Albuquerque holds their LGBT pride parade and festival the second week of June for more information go to www.abqpride.com
